Today we learned about schema. It was cool and fun to see just how much schema we knew about different things. It also showed us that a lot of us needed to improve our schema on certain areas.
Another activity that we did today dealt with listening skills. I really enjoyed this activity. It was nice to listen to my partner and her point of view on things. It helped me get to know her a little better. But, it helped me to improve my listening skills. We had to listen to them speak about a topic for two minutes and then summarize it back to them. If we messed it up, they would repeat it and then we would again try to summarize it and repeat it back to them until we got it correct. This was fun and it showed us how well we actually do listen to each other.
I agree with your comments-I really enjoyed the listening activity. I love your picture-we all need BIG ears when we listen to others.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the activities as well. I never realized how long 2 minutes can seem and how difficult it is to talk and listen for the entire duration.
ReplyDeleteBig ears! Im glad we don't have to walk around with those. Today's class really brought to light my limited schema about the Micronesian islands and its people.
ReplyDeleteListening is such an important skill but sadly, it is taken for granted the most. This is a great activity in the classroom just to know if everyone is on board with the learning and which areas need more clarity.
ReplyDeleteI am one to zone out when people talk to me about things that do no pertain to me, so I was kind of apprehensive about this activity at first. But it was actually easy to tune in when what you're listening to is interesting. Now, how to talk about math and not have my kids fall asleep......
ReplyDeleteyeah i agree with martina two minutes seem pretty long to talk about something. But i am sure we talk longer than two minutes.
ReplyDeleteI agree totally.the listening skills activity forced me to practice more. And its like Dr. Rivera said, if even we as teachers are having difficulties, just imagine the students.
ReplyDeleteLoved listening to you. At least were are given the opportunity to do so in class. We should have done this earlier in the program as it would have been a great ice breaker.
ReplyDeleteHey another fellow ear picture. We really enjoyed the listening game. This will be a good ice breaker.
