Today in ED641 we read the first 2 chapters in Under the Blood-Red Sun. We then created a "Literature Circle" (or book club so-to-speak). Very interesting to hear other people's opinions not only on the book itself, but how the book related to their personal lives. I believe this is good practice in the classroom. It allows every voice to be heard, and it offers different perspectives. I also enjoy the "Graffiti Board" where the group finishes the discussion, then everybody gathers around butcher paper to create his/her thoughts in text or graphics. This allows the students to express themselves individually on a group project. Awesome!
It really was interesting to hear about everyone's perspective of the book. Thanks for sharing your story.
ReplyDeleteI found this book club discussion very interesting and great as to getting to know our fellow classmates. I agree as to how we can express ourselves freely and see the varieties of views and ideas of each readers perceptions.
ReplyDeleteTJ thanks for the sharing. Hopefully the day will come when all prejudices will end (honestly so long as we have free will, I don't think I'll see the day).
ReplyDeleteit is a good interesting book. i just want to finish it so i know how good the book is or if the rest of the book is not so good. Racism i agree with evelyn it will always be around because kids learn to be racist from their homes. Until we look at how we teach our children at home and address our own prejudies racism will never really end.
ReplyDeleteI too, like hearing other people's views because they sometimes see things from another prospective. This is what is important...that through reading and sharing, prejudices and discrimination will diminish and diversity will flourish.
