After processing the syllabus and activities of this course, I am hopeful that I will have the tools to support and mold students in to confident and independent readers and writers. I am particularly looking forward to reading Under the Blood Red Sun. I am looking forward to reading this book for numerous reasons, specifically as a Chamoru and daughter of Guahan. I am immensely interested in the history of my island and her people. I have heard stories, both heartbreaking and humorous, from family members as they recalled their experience on Guahan during the Japanese occupation. I am eager to compare the experiences of the protagonist in the novel to the experiences of family members.

I agree with you. I am very excited to start reading also. I am not from Guam, but I have lived here for 14 years and my children are from here, so it will be nice to learn about the history.
ReplyDeleteBook sounds interesting.(Only because it deals with history) :)
ReplyDeleteI promised myself I would read something for the summer, I'm glad that we'll get to read something for the summer and it sounds like an interesting book. I want to find out if the experiences are the same here and in the PI.
ReplyDeleteI agree, especially since I call GUAM my home and take immense pride having been born and raised here!
ReplyDeleteI too am looking forward to the readings! Although I've already read this book, it will be nice to have it as a refresher reading. I recall it to be a good story.
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree. I look forward to reading this book this summer :)
ReplyDeleteI, too, agree. I am curious about this book as I don't remember hearing about it. I always look forward to finding more ways to be a proud CHamorita.
