Aesthetic Poetry

You've got to feel it or else it's just words, text, and text means nothing unless you make it or allow it to come to life. Today we went over what Transactional Theory is about. I like and agree with what this theory is saying. Until somebody comes along to read meaning from a page with type on it, text is just that... a white page with black ink on it. Words are formed and thoughts shaped if, and only if, we, the readers interact, no... TRANSACT with the poem by formulating meanings from the text.
The Character Journals were very interesting. I will certainly use this in my classroom as well. If students become a character & write what that character feels, then you know that that student is engaged.

  1. I agree. I think that these are ways that the students will be able to relate better to the stories that they are reading.

  2. There is so much depth to the transactional theory. We have the capacity to make reading much more than words on paper. I think that is pretty powerful and look forward to using the implications provided as a guide in the classroom.

  3. I agree, the students must learn how to get past the black ink on the white page and understand the true meaning behind the text. I wish it was as easy as it sounds...

  4. Yes,Mr. TJ3,I totally agree.Text really is just text until there is a voice attached to that certain text.It is only then that the receiver can really identify with "the poem".Aesthetic really is the way to go.

  7. Happy Birthday Again!!!

I did not agree with the use of the word transaction...the terminology was too business like that I had to read further on to understand the article.

  8. "Transaction" is where two things give and take something. That is what should be happening when students try to read a book. The "black texts and white pages" come alive when students give and take something.

  9. i agree with you it is your interpretations that makes the book for your self. Finding forester was a movie that comes to mind which the author hated that people tried to interpret what he wrote in his book.
